Do I need a real surgical microscope for wetlab training?

Not to start. Tabletop stereo and trinocular microscopes handle most anterior-segment skills. For phacoemulsification with a machine or posterior work, a refurbished surgical microscope - typically up to 50 percent below new price - or an existing departmental scope is the better choice.
