Our story

From a first company to models that are hard to match

2012
The first company
David Ortner starts his first company and with it the path that leads to eyecre.at.
2014
Our first artificial eyes
We build our first artificial training eyes ourselves, in Tyrol, together with surgeons who needed something better to practise on.
Today
Over 480 products, made in Austria
From single training eyes to complete wetlab stations, developed and 3D printed in Austria. Our models reproduce anatomy in layers and with a complexity that is hard to match.

What we believe

Surgery is a craft. It has to be learned like one.

Learned with the hands
Surgical skill grows through repetition: the same step, again and again, long before it counts on a patient.
Training for everyone
Not only for programmes with large budgets. Free training guides, public prices and models for every level.
Training is the better investment
Money spent on training is better spent than money spent on treating poor outcomes, for patients, for surgeons and for society.

How we work

Developed with surgeons and anatomists

Every model starts with a step that is hard to learn and rare to practise. We develop it together with the surgeons who teach it and with anatomists who know the tissue, then test it in real courses until it behaves the way it should under the microscope.

Production stays in Austria, together with our technology partner Addion, so we control quality and can build anything from one prototype to large series for congress wetlabs.

How custom models are made

Beyond ophthalmology

Surgical Standard

The way we work is not tied to the eye. A surgeon names a gap in their own field. We develop the model, handle production and distribution and build the accredited course around it, while the surgeon stays the clinical lead. This runs under Surgical Standard, an initiative with the Medical University of Innsbruck, its Institute of Clinical and Functional Anatomy, and Addion.
